Ontologies

The purpose of this topic is to provide for GEOSS an overview of, and the ability to compare and analyze, available ontologies and taxonomies. When developing new ontologies/taxonomies, this will avoid unnecessary overlaps and conflicts.  The ontologies/taxonomies referenced here that are already standards will be linked to entries in the Standards Registry. As appropriate, the ontologies/taxonomies that are not already standards will be forwarded to a standards development organization as proposed standards. An ultimate goal is to assist in the deployment of a referenceable ontology for Earth observation, which would link the User Requirements Registry with the Components and Services Registry.
